STORY

Bathrooms are among the most intimate spaces in a home — and among the most demanding to design well.

For us, a bathroom is never simply an arrangement of sanitary objects along the walls dictated by technical installations. It is an architectural space in its own right, shaped by proportion, perspective, privacy, reflection, material and light.

Marble Serenity presented an opportunity to explore this idea across five individual bathrooms within an existing private residence.

Each room was developed as its own spatial composition. The position of the WC was considered as carefully as the placement of a freestanding element or a doorway, allowing it to remain discreet rather than becoming the first object in view. Mirrors were positioned not simply where they were functionally required, but according to the reflections they create and the perspectives they open within the room.

Walls, volumes and sanitary elements were arranged to create depth rather than simply line the perimeter of the space. Material transitions, lighting and bespoke details reinforce this sense of spatial density, transforming highly functional rooms into places with their own atmosphere and identity.

This level of precision becomes particularly important in a bathroom. Unlike more open living spaces, it is experienced at close range and in moments of privacy. Every surface, reflection, sightline and detail contributes directly to how the room feels.

The transformation extended into two adjoining dressing rooms. Both were completely redesigned with bespoke built-in cabinetry, allowing storage, proportion and architectural detailing to become part of the rooms themselves rather than being treated as added furniture. Together with the bathrooms, they form a coherent sequence of highly personal spaces within the house.

The architectural challenge was accompanied by an equally demanding implementation process. All five bathrooms and both dressing rooms were completely rebuilt within the existing house while the residence remained occupied throughout construction.

The entire transformation had to be completed within nine weeks. Demolition, technical installations, waterproofing, stonework, sanitary installations, bespoke joinery and finishing therefore required precise sequencing and close coordination between the individual trades. With little tolerance for delay, planning decisions, fabrication and execution had to remain continuously aligned.

The result is a series of private spaces that feel calm and effortless despite the complexity behind them. Technical necessities recede, storage becomes architecture, while proportion, material, reflection and light define the experience of each room.

Marble Serenity reflects our belief that the bathroom can be one of the masterpieces of interior architecture: a highly technical room transformed through spatial thinking into something intimate, atmospheric and deeply personal.
