Pinetree Paradise
Vale Do Lobo, Portugal 2024

Overlooking the Atlantic and nestled among centuries-old pine trees, this house instantly evokes a sense of serenity and vacation. Just open the doors to breathe in the refreshing scent of pine and listen to the birds singing as they fly around.
In this project, we aimed to honor Portugal’s building traditions and materials while gently updating them in a contemporary way. We carefully selected materials such as rough stone floors, glazed ceramic tiles in nuanced tones, traditional window shutters, and dark oak, while linen in different textures adds an additional layer of warmth. Particular importance was given to dissolving the boundary between interior and exterior through the use of a continuous flooring material, creating a sense of elemental generosity reminiscent of Mediterranean living.
Reorganising the spatial structure and relocating the kitchen into the open living and dining area further strengthened this sense of openness, while allowing for the creation of a fourth bedroom and a third bathroom—enhancing both the functionality of the house and significantly increasing the property’s value.
One of our favorite features is how the washbasins and kitchen island resemble stones lying in the sand, blending seamlessly with the natural surroundings.
